Psalm 100

1 Make a joyful noise to the LORD, all the earth.

2 Worship the LORD with gladness; come into his presence with singing.

3 Know that the LORD is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.

5 For the LORD is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.

A beautiful hymn of praise to the Lord. I wonder how much time we Christians of this era spend praising God. Even in our prayers, how many lines are in praise?

If we really believe we are worshiping the Creator God, the One whose son gave his life so that we might not have to suffer permanent death, the One whose Spirit walks by us through thick and thin, whether we pay attention to it or not, THAT God, then why wouldn’t most of our time with that God be in praise and adoration?!

Read it again, Psalm 100. How beautiful it is! How many familiar lines it has! How joyful it is!

Read each verse and picture each one, in ancient images but then also in images for our day. What does making a joyful noise look like for us? How about entering the gates? The sheep of his pasture? Imagine each thing in your own way so that the praise can be real and bountiful and your heart can fill with joy.

Then…

Say it every day without fail for a week.

I wonder how it might change us.

Dear Lord, Thank you for loving us. Thank you for the psalmist who gives us these beautiful words to praise you. Help us to learn to do this praise every day. Bless our learning .   Amen.
