Psalm 25

1To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.

2O my God, in you I trust; do not let me be put to shame; do not let my enemies exult over me.

3Do not let those who wait for you be put to shame; let them be ashamed who are wantonly treacherous.

4Make me to know your ways, O Lord; teach me your paths.

5Lead me in your truth, and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation; for you I wait all day long.

6Be mindful of your mercy, O Lord, and of your steadfast love, for they have been from of old.

7Do not remember the sins of my youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for your goodness’ sake, O Lord!

8Good and upright is the Lord; therefore he instructs sinners in the way.

9He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches the humble his way.

10All the paths of the Lord are steadfast love and faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his decrees.

To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul.  In you I trust, O God.  These are the words to a camp song that I’ve heard played at Red Willow Bible camp and thanks to Erin and Jeremy at St. John as well.  Perhaps it is only fitting since this is a psalm, we teach to our children through song that in verse 7 we remember our youth.  This is a psalm that reminds us of God’s faithfulness to us.  It is a psalm that invites us to consider that even though we often go astray from God’s desires and hopes for us we have a God who is faithful and will not leave us. This Psalm invites us to consider the God who faithfully accompanies us along the journeys of this life.

Psalm 25 is a Psalm that encourages us to turn to God.  To allow God’s claiming presence to guide our ways.  This Psalm speaks to God’s presence in our lives, leading, teaching and guiding us as we seek to respond to God’s goodness and mercy lived out in our lives.  What a gift to have the assurance of a faithful God who accompanies us through all the paths we walk in this life.

Let us pray:

God of faithfulness, guide the paths upon which we tread.  Through your spirits leading, teach us to walk in your ways and hold us in your claiming love.  Amen
